Gate is not working on a cold weather. YG-5602

A: he may need to adjust VR1 up and perform re-learning of system (not remotes) for cold weather

YG-5602 with no power / no power light indication:

A: Please verify that you have connected the AC power connection from the building to the gate opener control box via this document http://www.gatekeeperltd.com/YG5602UE_User_Manual.pdf  Page 16, please note this is a new and updated document from the one included in your kit.  Turn the black power switch located on the bottom left of the control box to the on position, this switch can be seen on page 7 of the above document.  Check for the red power light on the control board.  If it is not present, please check the two fuses located on the bottom left side of the control board with an Ohm meter they should have continuity, they are in black casings that can be opened with a small flat screw driver.  If power is still  not present or you believe it to be powered only from battery, please take the following voltage measurements and provide them to our support department. Measure the voltage across the Live/Hot wire and the neutral wire as shown on page 16 of the above document using a meter that supports AC voltage measurement, a DC voltage measurement will give incorrect results.  That voltage should be 110-120V for USA and 220-240V for Europe.  If it is not correct, please check with your local power providers/electrician.  Check the transformer output at position J7 using an AC voltage meter, it should be between 16 and 18 volts AC.  If it is incorrect, please contact support for a replacement transformer.  Measure the voltage across the battery using a DC voltage meter it should be between 12-13 volts.  If it is incorrect, please charge the battery by leaving it hooked up in the control box overnight or charging it on a 12V charger.  If it remains low, contact support for a replacement  battery.

What is the warranty and how do I get service under the warranty?

A:  The warranty is for 1 year and includes parts and labor to repair the gate opener.  The repair is not onsite, we will either ship a replacement part to you or ask that you ship a part to us for repair.  If it is an electrical fault we will ask that you ship us your control board and then we will ship you a replacement control board.  If you would like us to advance ship you the control board before we receive yours then we will ask for a credit card but we will not charge the card as long as you return the bad part.  For mechanical issues like linear actuators or sliding gate motors, we will ask that you ship the item to our facility and we will repair it and return it to you.  The following form can be used to initiate a repair either within the warranty period or outside the warranty period.

What are IR photo cells and what do they do?

A:  Tthey are a safety device, if a child / animal car etc breaks the beam then the gate stops

A: No, photocells (included in the kit) are a safety feature.

Can this gate be opened automatically

The gate can be opened automatically by smart phone (OSM device), magnetic loop, keypad, card reader or any other optional accessory that supports the normally open momentary switch interface of the gate opener controller.

My drive way slopes down hill how do I handle this

Installing a gate opener on a downslope is difficult, it should be avoided where possible.  The requirements to place stops for the self learning process will still need to be met by alternate methods like posts for instance.

The YG-5602 will not complete the learning phase

A:
YG-5602 FAQ for handling problems with completing learning phase

The YG-5602 controller must complete a learning phase before it can be used in daily operation. This learning phase is necessary to discover certain parameters used during operation. However this learning process cannot setup the controller for any gate geometry. Gate geometry in this context means the lengths of the brackets used to attach the gate actuator to the pillar/column and to the gate, the location of the closed position stop and the location of the open position stop or internal stops. The controller logic is written with the assumption that the gate / gate actuator has been installed with the gate geometry described in the users manual http://www.gatekeeperltd.com/YG5602UE_User_Manual.pdf Page 16 / 17.

THE GATE ACTUATOR MUST BE INSTALLED ACCORDING TO THIS SPEC!!

The controller sets a timer during the initialization of the learning phase and starts the actuator moving. If it hits an obstruction before this timer expires, then the learning phase is aborted and must be started again. If the gate geometry is not setup correctly as mentioned above, then the actuator may have more mechanical advantage (leverage) than designed and therefore the movement of the gate will complete before the timer expires causing the behavior mentioned above.

The gate opener opens too far or closes too far. YG-5602

A: Refer to Fig.3 of the owner’s manual, install the retainer (the block) at the positions where he wants the gate opened and closed(This is required and not optional). The gate will stop after it hits the retainers at the opened or closed position. Be sure the force adj. knobs are adjusted to minimal force so as to avoid injury.

Reminders:
1.Please make sure to turn off all power switches
2.AC power and DC battery must be connected (AC Power is required for learning mode)
3.Hitting an obstruction will abor the self-learning mode
4. Adjust sensitivity of VR1, please adjust to 3 o’clock position when gate is in learning mode, and after the gate finish learning, it is adjusted to the 12:30 position.
5. the delay VR2 was adjusted at 1 o’clock position
6.Both gates will move in a normal speed when it’s in self-learning mode
7.Both gates stop in close position when it’s in self-learning mode
8.When the self-learning process is successful, it will open and close the gate normally.

What type and gauge of wire should I use for the photocells? I note that the receiver requires 4 strands

A: We recommend 16 or 18 gauge wire for the photocells

Can I lengthen or shorten the cable to the gate operators? YG-5602

A: Yes you can lengthen the shorter cable

Need info on how to adjust the final closed position of each side (leaf).

They are not stopping in line with each other or at the ‘hole’ in the ground where I would usually insert my lock
A: There is not a way to adjust the final stop position other than to install the stop block. Finish the installation of the stop block and it should learn the stop position

I want to keep the gate open for an extended period, how do I do that?

A: To keep the gate open, disengage the auto close function. It is a dip switch setting. Follow the instructions in the manual.

When installed for inward opening, should the actuator have the key slot on top, side or bottom? YG-5602

A: Key slot should be on top

The manual is not clear on where the lubricant (grease) goes. It mentions a screw but not which one? YG-5602

A: Adding grease is not required with YG-5602, despite what the manual says. That is a misprint in the manual that has been corrected in later versions.

I’m installing YG-5602 system; do both actuators have to be grounded separately since it is stated in the manual’ safety precautions that automatic gate opener must be grounded? YG-5602

A: They are not normally grounded as they are aluminum. The manual is referring to the control box not the actuator themselves. Just ground the control box and the gate. And you will be good.

My remote control doesn’t work or I can’t program the remote controls YG-5602

A: First, make sure that you have ac power to your unit, not just battery. Using a multimeter or battery tester, make sure that you have at least 12v on your battery. Second, make sure that all dip switches are in the OFF position (all the way to the right). Third, make sure that the power button on the bottom of your control box is in the ON position. Fourth, press the “Learn” button and the red LED should light up. Press #1 on your remote control and the light should go out. Press #1 again and your gate actuators should move.

Can another remote, for instance a garage door opener remote, be used to control the gatekeeper gate opener?

A: Follow the “Learning” process in the manual and press the button on the 3rd party remote when prompted. It may work with some manufacturers, but is untested and unsupported by Gatekeeper.

Can the remotes be used to open other things like garage door openers?

A: That is up to the manufacturer of the garage door opener or other device, follow his instructions for “Learning” and press a key on the gate opener remote when prompted. The remote uses 433 MHz frequency hopping. It may work with some manufacturers, but is untested and unsupported by Gatekeeper.

Q: Can I order additional remotes?
